Mustangs ready for Augsburg Open on Saturday

MARSHALL, Minn. – The Southwest Minnesota State wrestling team returns to the mat this Saturday competing at the Augsburg University Auggie-Adidas Invite at Si Melby Hall in Minneapolis.

SMSU head coach Jesse Nelson is expecting 16 wrestlers to compete during the open which is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.

The Mustangs (0-1, 0-1 NSIC) opened the conference season on Nov. 20 to face defending national champions, St. Cloud State.

SMSU competed in two opens prior to this weekend in which SMSU placed four at the RCTC Yellowjacket Open and Cole Hennen led the way at the Dakota Wesleyan Open, placing first and was one of seven SMSU wrestlers to place.

Robert Shields (149) placed at both opens with a fifth-place finish at the YellowJacket Open and a third-place finish at the Dakota Wesleyan Open.

Southwest Minnesota State continues action at the Buena Vista Open on Saturday, Dec. 7 at 9 p.m.
