MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Five members of the St. Olaf College wrestling team began their seasons at the Auggie-Adidas Open on Saturday at Si Melby Hall on the campus of Augsburg University.
Seniors Luke Wallace and Bryant Ridgway competed in the gold brackets at 133 and 157 pounds, respectively, while sophomore Jack Ridgway and first-year Kris Kurtz were in action in the silver brackets at 149 and 184 pounds. First-year Robbie McGlynn II wrestled in the 174-pound bronze bracket.
After dropping his opening match by tech fall to Eron Haynes of Nebraska Wesleyan, Wallace advanced by medical forfeit to the second round of the consolation bracket, where he dropped a 14-0 major decision to Luke Pradel of UW-Platteville.
B. Ridgway also rebounded from a tech fall loss to Upper Iowa’s Mac Spotts to pin Central’s Noah Gregorovic at 4:54 in the consolation bracket before going down by decision, 11-5, to Morningside’s Timothy Sibbell.
J. Ridgway pinned Mason Ross of UW-Platteville at 5:55 in his first consolation match after dropping a 9-0 major decision to Brady Gross of Augsburg in the first round. He then was defeated by major decision, 10-1, by Azi Rankins of Augsburg.
Kurtz advanced to the semifinals in the 184-pound silver bracket with an 8-4 decision over Kaimana McCreadie of Morningside before dropping a narrow 2-1 decision to Anthony Stege of Nebraska Wesleyan. In the third-place match, Luther’s Sage Nugent defeated Kurtz by tech fall, 17-1.
McGlynn II was pinned in both his matches in the bronze bracket at 174 pounds.
