MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — Sophomore Mason Schulz earned runner-up honors at 141 pounds to lead the Minnesota State University Moorhead wrestling team at the Auggie-Adidas Invite which was held Saturday in Minneapolis, Minn.
Schulz was second in the Gold Division at 141 pounds. He opened with a technical fall of St. Mary’s Jared Prough (16-0) and followed with a pinned of Robert Hall Jr. in 5:22. He recorded another tech fall in the semis, beating Conner Manderfeld of Upper Iowa 17-2 before losing in the finals 7-3.
Sophomores Braydon Ortloff and Evan Foster each placed fourth in their weight classes in the Gold Division. Ortloff went 2-2 with two pins at 157 while Foster was 1-2 (had an opening-round bye) and was pinned in the third-place match.
Sophomore Justin Dravis had three pins on the day, including two in the wrestle backs to place fifth. His only loss was a pin by Devan VandenBush of Platteville in the quarterfinals.
Junior Cory Schmidt went 2-2 at 197 and placed eighth.
In the Bronze Division, which featured many younger wrestlers, freshman Cody Dravis — wrestling unattached — won the 174-pound division with three pins. Freshman Ethan Kiehm was third at 149.
