St. Cloud State’s Garrett Vos named NSIC Wrestler of the Week

St. Cloud State University sophomore Garrett Vos (Bonifacius, Minn./Waconia H.S.) has been selected as the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Wrestler of the Week for Nov. 4-10.

In action at 133-pounds, Vos opened his 2019-20 season with a 2-0 record at the 2019 Journeymen Northeast Duals in Troy, N.Y. on Nov. 9. Vos carded an 11-6 win over No. 1 ranked Tyler Warner of Pitt-Johnstown to highlight his day. He also posted a 5:43 fall against Hayden Brown of Johnson & Wales, and received a forfeit win over American International in the first dual of the day for SCSU.

Vos was a leader for the #2 ranked Huskies as they charted dual match wins over American International (54-0), Johnson & Wales (43-0) and Pitt-Johnstown (31-6). Of note, Pitt-Johnstown entered the weekend as the nation’s number one ranked team in the NCAA Division II preseason poll for 2019-20.

The two-time defending national champion SCSU wrestling team will continue their 2019-20 season on Nov. 16 with a trip to the annual Finn Grinaker Open at Concordia College in Moorhead, Minn. St. Cloud State has won eight consecutive NSIC championships and has won NCAA Division II national titles in 2015, 2016, 2018 and 2019 under the leadership of head coach Steve Costanzo.

Vos is a returning All-American for the Huskies and was ranked third in the NCAA DII preseason poll at 133-pounds. His career record at SCSU now stands at 24-5 in two seasons of action on the mats. He is a resident of Bonifacius, Minn. and a graduate of Waconia High School.
