Vikings Set To Compete in Nebraska This Weekend

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — The Augustana wrestling team heads to Kearney, Nebraska, this weekend for its third tournament of the season at the UNK Younes Hospitality Open at the Buffalo County Fairgrounds at 9 a.m.

The Event
University of Nebraska-Kearney will host the event and it will be the first of two trips that the Vikings take to Nebraska this season.

The Opponents
Augustana is one of 40 schools that are competing and are joined by NSIC foes UMary and MSU Moorhead. The full list of schools competing can be found on page one of the Match Notes.

The Vikings
Through two tournaments, the Vikings have had eight first-place titles (one unattached) and of the 32 placements by the team, 23 have been in the top-five. Redshirt freshman Steven Hajas leads the Vikings with six falls on the season while redshirt freshman Hunter Burnett and junior Ethan Cota are tied for the team lead in tech falls with three. Redshirt freshman Jacob Tvinnereim leads Augustana in major decisions with three.

Wrestler To Watch
Sophomore Daniel Bishop was the lone Viking to tally points against Arizona State last Friday. Bishop pinned ASU’s Roman Rozell just 54 seconds into the match at 197 pounds and will wrestle in that same weight class this weekend.

One Last Thing
The Vikings have a five-way tie for the team lead in wins: Steven Hajas, Samuel Detert, Hunter Burnett, Cade Mueller (unattached) and Taylor Jeffries all have eight on the season.
