Gophers Split First Day of South Beach Duals

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — The Minnesota wrestling program split their duals on the first day of the South Beach Duals with a loss to Lehigh followed by a victory over Old Dominion.

The Gophers weren’t able to muster a rally against the Mountain Hawks before falling 29-10 while they took care of business against the Monarchs by a score of 25-10.

Three Gophers got their hand raised in both of the day’s matches: 141-pound Mitch McKee, 165-pound Bailee O’Reilly, and heavyweight Gable Steveson.

At 133-pounds Jake Gliva, a Simley High School graduate, made his first career dual debut becoming the fourth Gopher to make their first dual start this season.

Two individuals recorded their first ranked victories of the season against Old Dominion: 125-pound Patrick McKee and 165-pound Bailee O’Reilly. McKee won by 8-3 decision while O’Reilly was victorious by an 11-2 major decision.

Ryan Thomas and Caden Steffen participated in the individual tournament after the conclusion of dual-action.

Minnesota continues the event tomorrow morning at Noon CT against the Duke Blue Devils and in the afternoon against the Cornell Big Red.
