Mustang Wrestling closes successful day at Buena Vista Open

STORM LAKE, Iowa – The Southwest Minnesota State wrestling team (0-1, 0-1 NSIC) competed in the fourth open of the season to place six wrestlers as Robert Shields and Jackson Ryan led the way as consolation champions at 149 and 197, on Saturday afternoon.

Hunter Pfantz and Brock Buysse both placed at 133 as both went 2-2 to take home seventh and eighth place.

Kevin Bostwick went 3-2 to take seventh at 165 and Andrew Petersen at 285 went 3-2 to take home sixth.

Shields went 4-1 to earn the consolation title at 149 with three wins by decision and one win by fall. Ryan went 4-1 with a win by sudden victory over Matt Blome from Minnesota State to finish the day.

Southwest Minnesota State travels to Upper Iowa on Thursday to return to NSIC play at 7 p.m. at Dorman Gymnasium.
