MILWAUKEE, Wis. – Sophomore Jack Ridgway placed fifth at 149 pounds to lead the St. Olaf College wrestling team’s performances as the Oles finished 11th at the MSOE Invitational on Saturday.
Ridgway advanced to the quarterfinals with a 3-0 decision over Chip Hansen of MSOE before dropping a 9-4 decision to Brandon Lenczer of UW-Oshkosh. In the consolation bracket, he pinned Quinn Hoopman of Concordia (Wis.) at 3:48 and won by tech fall, 16-0, against Yared Ansera of Chicago to advance to the semifinals.
In the semis, Ridgway was topped by decision, 8-1, by UW-Platteville’s Garrett Ruckdashel, but the sophomore rebounded by pinning Ben Black of Wheaton (Ill.) at 2:34 in the fifth-place match to earn St. Olaf 13.5 points in the team standings.
After losing a 6-4 decision to Muzi Siseltha of UW-Oshkosh in the first round of the 157-pound bracket, senior Bryant Ridgway claimed a 9-7 win in sudden victory 1 over Carson Cook of Concordia (Wis.) in the consolation bracket. He then was on the wrong side of a 9-4 decision against UW-Eau Claire’s Adam Rients.
First year Kris Kurtz was pinned by Central’s Nathan Fritz at 2:09 in his first-round bout. He went on to win an 8-3 decision over Noah Hardy of Concordia (Wis.) before being pinned at 0:27 by Hardy’s teammate, Merrick O’Donnell.
Senior Luke Wallace and first year Robbie McGlynn II also competed for the Oles. Wallace dropped both his matches in the 133-pound bracket, as did McGlynn II in the 184-pound bracket.
