Ridgways record pins, wrestling wins first home dual

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The St. Olaf College wrestling team got pins from sophomore Jack Ridgway and senior Bryant Ridgway on its way to a 45-12 victory over visiting Waldorf University in its first home dual of the season on Thursday evening at Skoglund Center.

The pins from the Ridgway brothers highlighted the dual victory for St. Olaf, which also got a win by decision from senior Luke Wallace, in addition to five forfeits. Arie Reyes and Marcus McGinley recorded pins for Waldorf in the loss.

Reyes got the Warriors off to a 6-0 lead after pinning junior Shay Collins at 4:44 at 125 pounds. Wallace halved the deficit for St. Olaf with an 8-4 decision over Freddy Moreno at 133 pounds for his second victory of the season before a forfeit at 141 pounds put the Oles ahead, 9-6.

Jack Ridgway earned his team-best sixth victory of the season by pinning Robert Ornelas at 1:41 before brother Bryant pinned Julian Giustiniano at 4:31 at 157 pounds to extend St. Olaf’s lead to 21-6.

Waldorf forfeited four of the final five weight classes. After forfeits at 165 and 174, Marcus McGinley recorded the Warriors’ second fall of the night, pinning first year Kris Kurtz at 2:37, prior to forfeits at 195 and 285.

St. Olaf is next in action at the North Country Open in Collegville on Saturday, Jan. 25.
