COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Senior Dawson Kremlacek placed fourth in the 125-pound gold bracket as four members of the St. Olaf College wrestling team competed at the North Country Open at Sexton Arena on the campus of Saint John’s University on Saturday.
Kremlacek dropped his opening match to UW-Eau Claire’s Jack Marley by tech fall but rebounded with a win over Patrick Baumgardner of Southwest Minnesota State by a 6-2 decision. He then lost the third-place match by tech fall to Willie Meine of Southwest Minnesota State.
St. Olaf also had three wrestlers compete in the silver brackets, as first-year Kris Kurtz finished fourth at 184 pounds, senior Bryant Ridgway was fifth at 157 pounds and sophomore Jack Ridgway placed fifth at 149 pounds.
Kurtz’s day was highlighted by pinning Dan Gehrz of Saint John’s at 4:20 in his first match of the day. Jack Ridgway posted wins over Nick Harris (Northland Community College) by tech fall and Graham Evavold of Saint John’s by pin at 6:24 in his bracket, while Bryant Ridgway twice defeated Davion Barnes of Itasca Community College.
St. Olaf travels to UW-Eau Claire for the Don Parker Open on Saturday, Feb. 8.
