St. Cloud State’s Pleski named NSIC Wrestler of the Week

St. Cloud State University senior James Pleski, a resident of Stacy, Minn. and graduate of Forest Lake High School, has been named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Wrestler of the Week for the week of Jan. 6-12.

Pleski charted a perfect 4-0 record as SCSU won its fourth consecutive NWCA DII National Duals title on Jan. 10-11 in Louisville, Kentucky. He opened the tournament with a 4-3 win over Maryville’s Tyler Stegall at 149 pounds and then carded a 3-2 victory over No. 5 ranked Chris Donathan of Tiffin in the second match on Jan. 10.

On Jan. 11, Pleski added a key 3-1 overtime win over Central Oklahoma’s Zach Moore at 149 and then finished his perfect tourney run with a critical 6-4 overtime win over #12 Juwan Edmond of McKendree in the championship dual on Jan. 11. The points posted by Pleski were needed as the Huskies narrowly defeated #5 McKendree 17-16 in the title bout.

On the season, Pleski owns an 11-3 overall record and is currently ranked #2 in the nation amongst NCAA DII wrestlers at 149-pounds.

SCSU is currently ranked #1 in the nation among NCAA DII wrestling teams with a 10-0, 2-0 NSIC record. SCSU also set a new NCAA DII record for most consecutive dual match wins over the weekend. The old record of 54 wins was held by the Huskies from Jan. 30, 2011 to Jan. 12, 2014. The Huskies now have 58 consecutive dual match wins dating back to a loss on Jan. 14, 2017.

The Huskies also captured their fourth consecutive NWCA DII National Duals crown this weekend with wins over Maryville, #7 Tiffin, #6 Central Oklahoma, and #5 McKendree. This marks the sixth time since 2012 that SCSU has won the NWCA DII National Duals. SCSU, which has won NCAA Division II team titles in 2015, 2016, 2018 and 2019, will continue its 2019-20 season on Jan. 19 with a trip to the UW-Parkside Ranger Duals in Kenosha, Wisc.
