EAU CLAIRE, Wis. — The Augsburg University men’s wrestling team returned to action with competition at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Don Parker Open, held on Saturday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The No. 2-ranked Auggies sent 28 wrestlers to compete at Eau Claire, finishing with a 54-44 record, including 31 bonus-point victories — 18 pins, eight technical falls and five major decisions.
Tanner Vassar (SR, Maple Lake, Minn./Maple Lake HS) and David Flynn (SR, Jordan, Minn./Jordan HS (Scott West)) both recorded three wins without a loss each. Vassar, the top-ranked wrestler nationally at 184 pounds, improved to 25-0 on the season with three pins, while Flynn, ranked No. 5 nationally at 141, improved to 11-3 with two pins and a major decision. Both wrestlers finished second in their weight classes.
Brady Gross (FY, Rosemount, Minn./Rosemount HS) finished fifth at 141 pounds, going 3-1 with a pin and major decision. Nick Rogge (SO, Eastman, Wis./Prairie du Chien HS) also finished fifth in his weight class, going 4-1 with two technical falls and a major decision at 174. Also finishing fifth was heavyweight Tyler Kim (FY, Burnsville, Minn./Apple Valley HS), who went 3-1 with a pin.
Moses Madimba (FY, Coon Rapids, Minn./Coon Rapids HS) finished sixth at 165 pounds, going 3-2 with a major decision.
Augsburg hosts Concordia-Moorhead in a dual meet on Thursday (2/13) at 7:30 p.m. at Si Melby Hall.
