MOORHEAD, Minn. —The Minnesota State University Moorhead wrestling team is set for the NCAA Super Region V meet on Saturday at the Sioux Falls Civic Center in Sioux Falls, S.D. The top three finishers in each weight class will advance to nationals.
MSUM concluded the regular season on a high note with a 26-14 win over No. 23-ranked Minot State on Feb. 19. Sophomore Braydon Ortloff won by technical fall at 165 while senior Logan Rhode won by fall at 197. Junior Jordan Magnuson took home a tough 3-2 win over Minot State’s Jacob Belland at 285.
In addition to the Dragons, the NCAA Super Region 4 tournament will include St. Cloud State, Minnesota State-Mankato, Augustana (S.D.), Upper Iowa, UMary, Southwest Minnesota State, Northern State, Minot State, and the University of Wisconsin-Parkside. Wisconsin-Parkside is the only team that is not in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.
St. Cloud State is ranked No. 1 in Division II. The Huskies have nine ranked wrestlers. Upper Iowa is ranked no. 4 and they have four wrestlers individually ranked. Minnesota State is ranked no. 18 and has four wrestlers individually ranked.
Kris Nelson is in his 11th season as head coach of the Dragons.
