Johnnies End Dual Schedule Thursday at St. Olaf

Saint John’s wrestling ends it’s regular-season schedule with a 7 p.m. dual at St. Olaf on Thursday, Feb. 13, in Northfield.

A LOOK AT THE JOHNNIES: Saint John’s (1-5 dual record) competed last Saturday (Feb. 8) at Wisconsin-Eau Claire’s Don Parker Open. Eleven Johnnies competed across six weight classes.

Senior Noah Becker (Browerville, Minn.), NCAA Division III’s third-ranked wrestler at 133 pounds (D3wrestle.com), posted a pin and 5-1 decision before bowing out of the tournament. He is now 18-1 on the year and riding a 14-match win streak.

Sophomore Jacob Scherber (Buffalo, Minn.) bumped up to 184 pounds and went 2-2, while seniors Dan Gainer (St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall), Anthony Hennen (Cologne, Minn./Norwood-Young America) and Jerod Novak (Aitkin, Minn.) all recorded two wins apiece.

NEW RANKINGS STAY THE SAME: Becker stayed at No. 3 nationally at 133 pounds by D3wrestle.com (Feb. 12) and No. 5 by the National Wrestling Coaches’ Association (Feb. 10).

A LOOK AT THE OLES: St. Olaf (1-1 dual record), like SJU, participated last Saturday (Feb. 8) at Wisconsin-Eau Claire. Senior Bryant Ridgway led the five-Ole contingent with a 2-2 record at 157 pounds.
