SJU Competes at Blugold Open

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – Eleven Saint John’s wrestlers competed at Wisconsin-Eau Claire’s Don Parker Open on Saturday, Feb. 8.

Senior Noah Becker (Browerville, Minn.), NCAA Division III’s third-ranked wrestler at 133 pounds (D3wrestle.com), posted a pin and 5-1 decision before bowing out of the tournament. He is now 18-1 on the year and riding a 14-match win streak.

Sophomore Jacob Scherber (Buffalo, Minn.) bumped up to 184 pounds and went 2-2, while seniors Dan Gainer (St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall), Anthony Hennen (Cologne, Minn./Norwood-Young America) and Jerod Novak (Aitkin, Minn.) all recorded two wins apiece.

The Johnnies visit St. Olaf for a 7 p.m. dual this Thursday, Feb. 13, in Northfield.
