MANHEIM, Penn. — The awards keep rolling in for the Augustana wrestling team after a fantastic 2019-20 campaign that featured a second-place finish in the NSIC standings and saw three wrestlers qualify for nationals. This time, the Vikings are being honored in the classroom, with the fifth-best team GPA in the country (3.336) which earned the Vikings NWCA Division II Scholar All-America honors the NWCA announced Monday afternoon.
In addition to team honors, the Vikings also had six wrestlers earn individual honors, led by seniors Ben Kelvington and Bailey Neises, both of whom have GPA’s of 3.9 or higher.
In order for a student-athlete to be nominated to the Division II Scholar All-American Team, he must have a minimum 3.4 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale, with that benchmark at 3.0 for those who qualified for the 2020 NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships. The athlete must also have competed in a minimum of five dates of competition.

Overall, A total of 267 student-athletes from 49 institutions were honored individually. Super Region 5 led Division II with 56 honorees. Half of the national qualifiers to the 2020 NCAA Division II National Championships were among those honored including two of Augustana’s three national qualifiers. The Vikings also achieved the highest team GPA out of all NSIC institutions, with the next closest being 11th.
