Victor Gliva receives NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship

MINNEAPOLIS — Augsburg University wrestling student-athlete Victor Gliva (SR, Farmington, Minn.) was named as one of 42 winter student-athletes selected nationwide to receive the prestigious $10,000 NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship, honoring achievements as both a scholar and an athlete.

The award is the latest in a decorated career for Gliva, who became Augsburg’s first-ever student-athlete to win the NCAA Elite 90 award in all three years he was eligible for the honor. The NCAA Elite 90 award is given to the student-athlete at the NCAA championship with the highest GPA. Only three NCAA Division III student-athletes have ever won the award three times in a career and only 13 student-athletes have done so across all three NCAA Divisions. Academically, Gliva was also a four-time NWCA Division III Scholar All-American as well as earning CoSIDA Academic All-America and Academic All-District honors.

On the mat, Gliva finished his Augsburg career with 114-27 record, with 35 pins, 10 technical falls and 19 major decisions. He qualified for the NCAA national championships in all four years of his Auggie career and claimed three individual All-American honors. Gliva was a member of Auggie teams that claimed the 2019 NCAA Division III national championship, finished second in both 2017 and 2018, while the 2020 championship was canceled due to COVID-19. Gliva was a three-time NCAA Regional champion and will graduate as one of the most decorated light-weight wrestlers in Augsburg history.

An Accounting major with a 4.000 grade-point average, Gliva also earned CoSIDA Academic All-American honors a year ago.

Gliva is just the fifth Auggie in school history to receive an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship, and the first since women’s soccer student-athlete Emily Gregg earned the honor in 2017. According to the NCAA, “Athletics and academic achievements, campus involvement, community service, volunteer activities and demonstrated leadership are evaluated” in awarding the scholarships.

Gliva will continue his education at Augsburg pursuing his Masters in Business Administration.
