Farmington wrestler dies at Lake Byllesby

Farmington wrestler Garrett Berg, 17, died on Monday afternoon, June 8, at Lake Byllesby near Cannon Falls, Minn.

Berg was jumping off of a cliff when a second juvenile jumped immediately after and landed on him. Berg never surfaced according to the Goodhue County Sheriff’s Office.

The Goodhue County Dive Team recoverered Berg’s body on Monday evening.

Berg was a varsity wrestler at Farmington, competing at 138 pounds in 2019-20.

Farmington Wrestling’s Instagram account posted a message after the news, “Garrett, your life was taken way to early! We love you and miss you! Fly High G!”

A GoFundMe page, started by Austin Patterson and Owen Zahn, at https://www.gofundme.com/f/garrett-berg-funeral-costs was created on June 9 to raise money for Berg’s funeral costs. On the first day, over $17,000 was raised.
