St. Cloud State schedule announced for 2020-21 season

The St. Cloud State University wrestling schedule has been posted for the upcoming 2020-21 season. The Huskies will get the season underway on Thursday, Dec. 10 at 7:00 p.m. with the annual Black/Red Classic intrasquad exhibition match in Halenbeck Hall.

This match will serve as a warm-up for the 2020-21 regular season, which will feature six Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference dual matches. The Huskies have won nine consecutive NSIC championships and they will open league action on Jan. 7 at 7 p.m. with a dual match at the University of Mary.

SCSU will then return to Halenbeck Hall for the 2020-21 home opener on Jan. 14 with a 7 p.m. date against NSIC rival Minot State. This match has been designated as Prep Night. The Huskies will return to the road on Jan. 21 for a 7 p.m. date at Augustana University.

On Jan. 28, SCSU will face NSIC foe Minnesota State University for a 7 p.m. match in Halenbeck Hall against the Mavericks. The match has been designated as SCSU Alumni Night. SCSU and new NSIC opponent Wisconsin-Parkside will meet up on Feb. 4 for a 7 p.m. dual in Kenosha, Wisc. UW-Parkside joins the NSIC this season as an affiliate member in the sport of wrestling.

To wrap up the regular season, SCSU will then host Upper Iowa on Feb. 11 at 7 p.m. in Halenbeck Hall. The match will include a salute to the 2020-21 SCSU senior class.

The Huskies will be led this winter by team captains Jake Barzowski, Devin FitzPatrick, and Kameron Teacher.

SCSU finished the 2019-20 season as the nation’s number one ranked team. The Huskies won the 2020 NSIC championship, the 2020 NCAA DII regional title, and the 2020 NWCA DII National Duals. SCSU finished the year with a 16-0, 8-0 NSIC record. The Huskies have won NCAA DII national titles in 2015, 2016, 2018, and 2019, and they have won the NSIC championship in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020.

SCSU has currently won 64 consecutive dual meets under the leadership of head coach Steve Costanzo, who begins his 15th season at SCSU in 2020-21 with a 224-28 career record in the Granite City. SCSU has not lost a dual match since the 2016-17 season. Of note, the Huskies enter 2020-21 as the nation’s top-ranked NCAA DII team by the FloWrestling preseason DII poll.
