Hunter Burnett Named NSIC Wrestler Of The Week

BURNSVILLE, Minn. — One day after defeating the No. 1-ranked wrestler in the country, sophomore Hunter Burnett has been named the NSIC Wrestler of the Week the conference announced Monday afternoon.

Ranked No. 9 himself, Burnett took the mat in the 149-pound bout in Sunday’s dual with No. 1 St. Cloud State. Across from him stood the Huskies’ Jake Barzowski, who currently ranks No. 1 in the 157 pound weight class.

A quiet first and second period between the two set the stage for a dramatic third period. Burnett logged an early escape to go up 1-0 before a Barzowski takedown. Down 2-1, Burnett escaped and took Barzowski down with just under a minute to go for a 4-2 advantage. The sophomore then held his opponent to the mat until time expired earning the marquee win.

Burnett, a returning All-American and national qualifier, is now 2-1 on the season with one fall. He and the rest of the Vikings will be back in action Thursday on the road against Southwest Minnesota State.
