Mavericks Open Season with 31-12 Win at Minot State
Minot, N.D. — #13 Minnesota State opened the 2020-21 season with a dominating 31-12 road victory at Minot State Thursday.
The Mavericks won seven of ten matches in securing the road Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference victory.
Senior Trenton McManus got the ball rolling with a 2-1 win over Oscar Nellis to get the Mavericks out to a 3-0 lead. Junior Brock Luthens downed Kelby Armstrong 6-4 at 133 and junior Kolbe O’Brien pinned Lincoln Stormer at 141. Senior All-American Kyle Rathman upped his career record to 78-19 when he pinned Shadi Mitwalli at 149. Junior Cooper Siebrecht dropped a 3-1 overtime decision to Nathan Baca in his match at 157. Sophomore Mike Smith pinned Austin Frantzich and junior Trevor Turriff beat Noah Gallardo 12-1. Following a Keegan Berry (Minot State) win over junior Dylan Butts at 184, senior Matt Blome picked up a 7-0 decision over Dustin Swisher at 197. Minot State’s Jordan Will closed out the dual with a 3-1 victory over junior David Griffit.
Next action for the Mavericks (1-0, 1-0 NSIC) is next Thursday when Augustana visits Taylor center.
