Augustana Closes Regular Season With MSU Moorhead

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — The Augustana wrestling team’s regular season comes to a finish this Thursday inside the Elmen Center where the Vikings are set to take on the Dragons of MSU Moorhead at 7 p.m.

Due to COVID-19 protocols, attendance for Thursday’s dual will be limited to family members of Viking wrestlers only. As always, however, live video and live stats will be available for the dual at GoAugie.com/Live.

The Dragons
MSU Moorhead comes into its matchup with Augustana at 1-2 with losses to SMSU and Upper Iowa. Its lone victory was against Minot State last Thursday. Thursday’s dual against the Vikings will be MSU Moorhead’s first road dual this season.

The Dragons feature one ranked wrestler on their roster, No. 12 Cole Jones at 125 pounds. The junior earned All-America honors during the 2018-19 season.

The Vikings
After a dual in which Augustana took down three ranked wrestlers from then-No. 16 Upper Iowa, a new Viking has emerged in the national rankings in 174 pounder Cade Mueller. Mueller, a redshirt-freshman, has put a solid 4-1 performance together this season with two dominating victories, a dramatic win at the buzzer against St. Cloud State and, most recently, a strong 4-2 decision over then-No. 8 Myron Crawford of Upper Iowa.

Mueller, now ranked No. 12 at 174 pounds, joins sophomore Hunter Burnett in the national rankings. Burnett, also having a strong 3-1 season himself with a fall and tech fall, has climbed to No. 8 in the 149 pound rankings. The two wrestlers look to lead the Vikings to one more dual win before the NCAA Super Region 5 Tournament in Aberdeen, South Dakota, on Feb. 27.
