BURNSVILLE, Minn. — Augustana senior Brandon Carroll, sophomores Hunter Burnett and Kolby Kost and redshirt-freshman Cade Mueller were named to the All-NSIC Wrestling Second Team the conference office announced Thursday morning. Only St. Cloud State posted more all-conference wrestlers than Augustana.
Brandon Carroll – 133 pounds
Carroll, a national qualifier from the 2016-17 season, lands on the All-NSIC Second Team for the second time in 2020-21, having made the team during his freshman season.
During the regular season, Carroll went 4-2 with two falls and nine takedowns and will take the mat for the Vikings in the NCAA Super Region 5 Tournament this Saturday, Feb. 27.
Hunter Burnett – 149 pounds
Burnett, a national qualifier and All-American from the 2019-20 season, also makes his second appearance on the All-NSIC Second Team in 2020-21.
This season, Burnett went 3-1 with one fall, one tech fall and seven takedowns. The sophomore also defeated No. 1-ranked Jake Barzowski of St. Cloud State in a 4-2 decision on Jan. 24 in Augustana’s dual with the Huskies. It marked the second-consecutive season in which Burnett defeated a No. 1-ranked wrestler.
Kolby Kost – 184 pounds
Kost finds himself garnering all-conference honors for the first time in his career. The Sophomore went 3-1 this season with two major decisions and tied with teammate Cade Mueller for team lead in takedowns with 11.
One of Kost’s major decisions (12-1) came over No. 8-ranked Dalton Hahn of Upper Iowa on Feb. 4. Kost, nationally ranked No. 11, will also take the mat for the Vikings in the region tournament this Saturday.
Cade Mueller – 174 pounds
Mueller joins Kost as a first-time all-conference honoree in 2020-21. The redshirt-freshman led the Vikings in wins this season with a 5-1 record, one major decision and 11 takedowns.
Mueller also took down a ranked wrestler from Upper Iowa, defeating No. 8-ranked Myron Crawford in a 4-2 decision on Feb. 4. Mueller will make his regional debut this Saturday.
About The Selections
The all-conference teams were selected by the league coaches with the top point receivers at each weight class being named first team and the second being named to the second team. The coaches shall vote for Coach of the Year, Rookie of the Year and Wrestler of the Year on a separate ballot following the conclusion of the national championships.
