Five Huskies earn All-NSIC honors

BURNSVILLE, MINN. – The No. 3 St. Cloud State University wrestling team was once again tops in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC). The Huskies won their third consecutive league title, going 5-0 with dominating wins over all opponents. On Thursday, five wrestlers were recognized for their outstanding seasons, as the conference office announced its All-Conference teams Thursday morning.

Four wrestlers earned First Team All-NSIC honors, including Garrett Vos (Bonifacius, Minn. / Waconia), Joey Bianchini (Elk Grove Village, Ill. / Immaculate Conception), Billy Pitzner (Jefferson, Wis. / Milton) and Kameron Teacher (Columbus, Ohio / Central Crossing), while Devin FitzPatrick (Mahtomedi, Minn. / Mahtomedi) was named Second Team All-Conference Thursday morning. It marks the 11th consecutive year four or more Huskies earned All-NSIC honors.

Vos earned First Team All-Conference honors for the third consecutive season after completing a perfect record at 133 pounds. The junior from Bonifacius, Minnesota went 4-0 during the season, scoring 15 points during the season for St. Cloud State and winning all matches in conference play. He was additionally one of four wrestlers to complete a perfect season and earned one bonus point win in 2020-21. Vos additionally maintained the No. 1 ranking at 133 pounds throughout the 2020-21 season and enters Saturday’s Super Regional V as the No. 1 ranked wrestler in the nation at that weight.

Bianchini followed up his impressive rookie campaign with another All-Conference honor, as he was named First Team All-NSIC at 141 pounds. After being named the National Rookie of the Year in 2019-20, Bianchini avoided a sophomore slump by going 5-0 in his matches this season, while two wins by major decision and two bonus point wins. He additionally earned 17 points for the Huskies throughout the year, and finished the regular season ranked No. 4 in the nation at 141 pounds.

Pitzner had a breakout year at 184 pounds, as he dominated in nearly every match in 2020-21. Like Bianchini, Pitzner completed the perfect season, going 5-0 with one win by pin and one bonus point victory. At the end of the regular season, Pitzner ranked second on the team in points earned, as he scored 18 points for St. Cloud State in 2020-21. Additionally, Pitzner rose up the national rankings throughout the year, closing the season as the No. 8 ranked wrestler in the weight class.

After redshirting in 2019-20, Teacher made his debut in 2020-21 and took everyone to school. The senior led the Huskies in points earned and bonus points at the end of the regular season, and enters the Super Region V contest as the No. 1 ranked wrestler at 285-pounds. In his first season with St. Cloud State, Teacher posted a perfect 5-0 record, winning 21 points for the Huskies with three major decision wins and a pin. Teacher additionally won four bonus point matches in 2020-21.

FitzPatrick closed his Huskies career as a three-time All-Conference selection, earning First Team honors in 2019-20 and second team honors in both 2020-21 and 2018-19. The senior from Mahtomedi, Minnesota posted a 4-1 record at 165 pounds with two wins by pin and two bonus point wins. FitzPatrick ranked second on the team in points earned in 2020-21 and spent the majority of the season as the No. 1 ranked wrestler in his weight class. He enters the Super Region V competition as the No. 6 ranked wrestler at 165 pounds.

2020-21 NSIC All-Conference Teams

These five Huskies and the rest of their teammates will return to competition on Saturday, as they compete in the Super Region V Championships in Aberdeen, South Dakota. Matches are set to begin at 12 p.m. on Northern State University’s campus.
