Manheim, PA – St. Cloud State remains atop the National Wrestling Coaches Association Division II Coaches Rankings, in the newest edition of the poll released Friday by the Association.
The Huskies tallied 100 total points behind seven wrestlers ranked in the #12 in their respective weight classes, with three of those student-athletes sitting at #1 individually. Nebraska-Kearney retained the #2 spot with a poll-high nine ranked individuals.
Lindenwood moved into the #3 spot in the team poll, up from its spot at #4 two weeks ago. Gannon and McKendree each also moved up a spot, with the Knights at #4 and the Bearcats at #5 in the most recent ranking. Don Henry’s Gannon squad also features a poll-high nine ranked wrestlers.
Mercyhurst and Minnesota State moved into the Top 10 for the first time this season, with the Lakers coming in at #7 behind Central Oklahoma in the six-spot. Ashland moved up one spot to #8, as did Adams State coming in at #9. Indianapolis and the aforementioned Mavericks share the #10 spot to round out the DII Top 10.
Nine of the DII individual #1s stayed the same, with the lone shakeup coming at 157, where Findlay’s James Wimer moved to the top spot individually. At 125, a National Finalist in 2019, Josh Portillo of Nebraska-Kearney held onto the top spot, as did St. Cloud State’s Garrett Vos at 133. At 141, 2019 National Finalist Isiah Royal of Newberry still sits in the #1 spot, with Lindenwood’s Gavin Londoff still at the top of the 149 individual rankings.
After Wimer at #1 at 157, another SCSU Huskie in Devin FitzPatrick is the #1 at 165. Abner Romero, another Lindenwood Lion, is the top man at 174, with 2019-20 NWCA Wrestler of the Year Heath Gray of Central Oklahoma still holding the #1 spot at 184. The 2019-20 NCAA DII Most Dominant Wrestler, Ryan Vasbinder of McKendree, still holds on to #1 at 197, while two-time National Finalist Kameron Teacher of St. Cloud State is still the #1 at heavyweight.
Super Region 4 leads the way with seven teams in the Top 25, with three of those in the Top 10. SR4 also leads the way with 26 total ranked wrestlers, whie Super Region 3 has six teams in the Top 25 and 17 ranked wrestlers. Super Region 6 has 20 ranked wrestlers and along with Super Region 5 features four teams in the Top 25.
The Great Lakes Valley Conference leads the way with five teams in the Top 25 and 19 ranked wrestlers, while the Mid-American Intercollegiate Athletics Association and the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference both have four Top 25 teams. The Mountain East joins the GLVC with 19 total ranked wrestlers.
The NCAA Division II Coaches Rankings are voted on and compiled by two head coaches from each of the six Super Regions.
