Augsburg alumnus Donny Longendyke ’17 finished second for USA Wrestling in the 130 kg (287 pounds) Greco-Roman bracket at the 2021 Senior Pan American Championships in Guatemala City, Guatemala on Thursday.
Longendyke went 3-0 to reach the finals, beating Luis Roman Barrios (Mexico) 5-2, Catriel Pehuen Muriel (Argentina) 8-4 and Isaque Medeiros Conserva (Brazil) 6-1. Longendyke dropped a 3-0 decision to Leo Santana Heredia (Dominican Republic) in the finals.
A native of White Bear Lake, Minn., Longendyke was a three-time NCAA Division III All-American at heavyweight at Augsburg, winning the national title in 2015, while finishing second in 2016 and 2017. A transfer from Division I Nebraska, Longendyke went 109-9 in his three Auggie seasons, 151-30 in his collegiate career.
A three-time U.S. Open All-American, Longendyke is one of two Minnesotans competing at the Senior Pan-Am Championships. Minnesota wrestler Gable Steveson will be competing in the 125 kg (276 pounds) freestyle bracket on Sunday.
