Steveson to Compete at Senior Pan American Championships

Minnesota heavyweight Gable Steveson will make his senior international debut on Sunday at the Pan American Championships in Guatemala City, Guatemala. Steveson will be one of 11 members of the 2020 U.S. Olympic Team that will compete in the tournament.

Steveson will take part in a pool round-robin on Sunday beginning at 11 a.m. with semifinals and the finals slated for later in the day. As part of Group A, he will face opponents from Canada, Colombia and Guatemala. Group B will feature competitors from Argentina, Dominican Republic and Mexico.

After qualifying for the Olympics in early April, Steveson will look to add a Pan American title to his impressive list of 2021 accolades. He won his second straight Big Ten title in March and captured his first NCAA title two weeks later. Steveson became Minnesota’s second winner of the Dan Hodge Trophy, which is presented to the nation’s top collegiate wrestler.

FloWrestling will provide live streaming coverage of the four-day tournament, which kicks off today with Greco-Roman competition. Women’s freestyle will be held on Friday and Saturday, while men’s freestyle will run Saturday through Sunday.
