Mankato, Minn. — Two Minnesota State wrestlers have been named 2020-21 Academic All-District® At-Large First Team for their efforts on the mat and in the classroom this past season.
Earning First Team All-District honors are Kyle Rathman and Trevor Turriff.
First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team. Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in early August. Nominees are selected from the following sports: Women’s Beach Volleyball, Women’s Bowling, Women’s Crew/RowingMen’s and Women’s Fencing, Women’s Field Hockey, Men’s and Women’s Golf, Men’s and Women’s Gymnastics, Men’s and Women’s Ice Hockey, Men’s and Women’s Lacrosse, Men’s and Women’s Rifle, Men’s and Women’s Skiing, Men’s and Women’s Swimming, Men’s and Women’s Tennis, Men’s Volleyball, Men’s and Women’s Water Polo and Men’s Wrestling.
Student-athletes are nominated by their school’s sports information director and are voted upon by SIDs in their district.
Rathman owns a 3.49-grade point average and is majoring in marketing. A three-time Northern Sun All-Academic Team member and a two-time National Wrestling Coaches Association Scholar All-American, Rathman has finished seventh twice at the national championship tournament. The senior from Apple Valley, Minn., has fashioned a 69-21 won-loss record over the course of his collegiate wrestling career.
Turriff has a 3.72-grade point average and is majoring in finance. A two-time Northern Sun All-Academic Team member, he received the NSIC Elite 18 Award in 2021. He has advanced to the NCAA Championships twice (2020 and 2021) and finished second at 174 lbs. in 2021. Named All-NSIC First Team in 2021, he has been named an NWCA Scholar All-American twice. The De Pere, Wis., native has put together a 42-14 record during his career at Minnesota State.
