Vos earns Academic All-District honors

ST. CLOUD, MINN. – St. Cloud State University wrestler Garrett Vos (Bonifacius, Minn. / Waconia) will need to make more room in his trophy case. The redshirt junior earned First Team Academic All-District honors from the College of Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Thursday afternoon, becoming the sixth wrestler in program history to earn the prestigious honor.

Thanks to an impressive academic and athletic resume, Vos earned Academic All-District honors for the first time in his career and extends the wrestling team’s streak to five consecutive years with at least one representative on the CoSIDA All-District teams. A criminal justice major, Vos was named to the 2020-21 Division II Academic All-District 7 Men’s At-Large team after maintaining a GPA of 3.66 during the academic year while leading the Huskies to their third consecutive national title in March.

A three-time All-American at 133-pounds, Vos’ athletic resume is equally as impressive as his academic one. As a redshirt junior, Vos was the national runner up at 133 pounds, posting a 10-1 record during the season with three major decisions and one tech fall. Vos also maintained the No. 1 ranking at 133 pounds throughout the 2020-21 season and led St. Cloud State to its tenth consecutive Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) title. All-time, Vos is 49-6 in dual matches and won three national championships with the Huskies.

Vos has also garnered several athletic and academic awards during his time at St. Cloud State, though this is his first CoSIDA honor. As a freshman, Vos was named the 2018-19 NSIC Rookie of the Year and was a First Team All-NSIC selection in both 2019-20 and 2020-21. Additionally, Vos is a four-time NWCA DII All-Academic Award recipient and a three-time member of the NSIC All-Academic team.

Vos was one of four wrestlers from the NSIC to earn the prestigious honor. Student-athletes are nominated by their institution’s sports information directors/athletic communications representatives and are selected by the members of CoSIDA. Vos will advance to the Academic All-America ballot, the winners of which will be announced in late July.
