Reitmeier Adds South Dakota State Champion to 2021 Signing Class

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Augustana head wrestling coach Jason Reitmeier is pleased to announce the addition of two-time South Dakota State Champion Cael Larson to the 2021 signing class. Larson grew up in Piedmont, South Dakota, and attended Rapid City Central High School.

“We are really excited and very lucky to get a student-athlete like Cael this late,” Reitmeier said. “Cael has all the tools but is exceptional in the neutral position. He is physical with his hands yet very slick with his offense.

“Cael is tall and slender. I can see him growing and moving up several weight classes by the time he graduates.”

lAs a senior in 2020-21, Larson tallied a 33-0 record while earning the South Dakota State A Championship at 138 pounds. He totaled 174 takedowns and had just three matches go the full six minutes. Following the season, he earned the South Dakota Wrestling Coaches Association Class A Wrestler of the Year honor.

As a junior, Larson recorded a 52-4 record while winning the 120-pound State Championship.

All four years of high school, he competed in the State Championship match, finishing runner-up as a sophomore at 113 pounds and runner-up as a freshman at 106 pounds. He had records of 52-2 as a sophomore and 56-4 as a freshman.

“Cael adds to an already impressive 2021 class,” Reitmeier added. “We are looking forward to working with this class this fall.”
