LEXINGTON, KY – It was no secret to anyone in the wrestling community that St. Cloud State University’s Garrett Vos (St. Bonifacius, Minn. / Waconia) put together a season to remember in 2020-21. The redshirt junior earned a multitude of postseason honors after an incredible year in which he led the Huskies to their third consecutive national team title. On Thursday, Voss earned one last award, as he was named a First Team Academic All-American by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Vos, who was named First Team Academic All-District by the organization in early July, is a first-time Academic All-America honoree and becomes the third wrestler to earn the honor in the last five seasons. A criminal justice major, Vos was named to the 2020-21 CoSIDA Division II Academic All-America At-Large Team after maintaining a GPA of 3.66 during the academic year while leading the St. Cloud State to its third straight national title in March. During the team’s historic run, Vos earned his third All-America honor, finishing as the national runner-up at 133-pounds. The redshirt junior additionally posted a 10-1 record during the 2020-21 season and maintained the No. 1 ranking at 133-pounds throughout the regular and postseason.
Vos has also garnered several athletic and academic awards during his time at St. Cloud State, though this is his first CoSIDA Academic All-America honor. As a freshman, Vos was named the 2018-19 NSIC Rookie of the Year and was a First Team All-NSIC selection in both 2019-20 and 2020-21. Additionally, Vos is a four-time NWCA DII All-Academic Award recipient and three-time member of the NSIC All-Academic team. His overall record during his time with the Huskies is 46-9.
The CoSIDA Academic All-America teams are selected by the sports information directors and athletic communications representatives across the nation at the Division I, II and III level. Honorees must have been selected as a First Team Academic All-District recipient and nominated by their institution’s sports information director.
