Augustana Ranked No. 22 in NWCA Preseason Poll

Carroll and Hajas Individually Ranked

MANHEIM, Penn.– The Augustana wrestling team begins the 2021-22 season ranked in the Top-25 of the NWCA Preseason Division II poll. Augustana also has two individually ranked wrestlers in Brandon Carroll and Steven Hajas.

Augustana received 14 total points, landing in the 22nd spot in the poll. Reigning NCAA Division II champion St. Cloud State leads the preseason poll receiving 81 points. Rounding out the top five is Nebraska-Kearney, Lindenwood, Central Oklahoma, and West Liberty.

Junior Steven Hajas is ranked fourth at 285 pounds. Hajas enters the 2021-22 season having finished third at the NCAA Division II tournament last season and earned NCAA All-America honors.

Senior Brandon Carroll enters his final campaign ranked 11th in the individual poll at 133 pounds. Carroll is entering his fifth season at Augustana. In the 2020-21 season, Carroll was a national qualifier at 133 pounds and held a 9-5 record with three falls and one major decision.


In addition, Augustana has seven regionally-ranked student-athletes for Super Region 5:

149 pounds – Hunter Burnett, No. 4
165 pounds – Dylan Schuck, No. 6
174 pounds – Cade Mueller, No. 3
184 pounds – Kolby Kost, No. 4
197 pounds – Daniel Bishop, No. 5
285 pounds – Steven Hajas, No. 2

The Vikings begin their season on Nov. 6 at the Jimmie Open in Jamestown, North Dakota.
