Augustana Begins Season at Jimmie Open

SIOUX FALLS, S.D.– Augustana wrestling opens its 2021-22 campaign Saturday at the Jimmie Open in Jamestown, North Dakota. The event, hosted by Jamestown, begins at 9 a.m.

Augustana was selected fourth in the NSIC Preseason Coaches Poll and is the No. 22 ranked team in the NWCA Poll. Senior Brandon Carroll and junior Steven Hajas are both regionally and nationally ranked in the NWCA Preseason Poll.

Hajas is ranked fourth at 285 pounds. He enters the 2021-22 campaign with a third-place finish in the 2020-21 NCAA Division II tournament and earned NCAA All-America honors. Hajas was named the Athlete to Watch for Augustana by the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.

Carroll will enter his final season for the Vikings at 133 pounds. He was ranked 11th in the NWCA individual poll after qualifying for nationals at 133 pounds and holding a record of 9-5 with three falls and one major decision in the 2020-21 season.

Augustana saw seven athletes regionally ranked in the Super Region 5 rankings with Brandon Carroll (133 pounds), Jack Huffman (141 pounds), Hunter Burnett (149 pounds), Dylan Schuck (165 pounds), Cade Mueller (174 pounds), Kolby Kost (184 pounds), Daniel Bishop (197 pounds) and Steven Hajas (285 pounds).

The Vikings also return a trio of All-NSIC honorees. Cade Mueller (174), Kolby Kost (184), and Hunter Burnett (149) earned Second Team All-NSIC honors during the 2020-21 season.

Following the Jimmie Open, the Vikings travel to Mitchell, South Dakota, for the DWU Open. Augustana will begin its dual season in Brookings, South Dakota, on Nov. 19th.
