Augustana Heads to Mitchell for DWU Open

SIOUX FALLS, S.D.– Augustana wrestling travels west to Mitchell, South Dakota, this Saturday to participate in the DWU Open. The tournament is the second of the 2021-22 campaign for the Vikings and will begin at 9 a.m.

The Vikings

Augustana comes off of the Jimmie Open last Saturday where the Vikings won nine of 10 weight classes.

AU has two nationally ranked wrestlers in senior Brandon Carroll and junior Steven Hajas. Carroll and Hajas were both victorious in their respective weight classes at the Jimmie Open, Hajas at 285 and Carroll at 133.

The Vikings also saw victories in the 125-pound bracket with Jaxson Rohman claiming first place. Kage Lenger won the 141-pound weight class. Tyler Wagener recorded two falls and won the 157-pound weight class while Miles Fitzgerald went 3-0 and won the 165-pound weight class.

Cade Mueller won the 174-pound weight class, Jackson Sweeney went 3-0 and won the 184-pound weight class, and Daniel Bishop claimed the title in the 197-pound weight class.

Following the DWU Open, the Vikings travel to Brookings, South Dakota, for the South Dakota State Duals to begin their dual season on November 19th. The Vikings will face Northern State in a nonconference match followed by a dual with the host Jackrabbits.
