Steffen tabbed NSIC Wrestler of the Week

BURNSVILLE, Minn. — Southwest Minnesota State University’s Caden Steffen has been named Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Wrestler of the Week. The announcement came from the league office in Burnsville, Minn., on Tuesday morning.

Steffen, a native of Zumbrota, Minn., went 5-0 last week en route to a first-place finish at 184 pounds at the Dakota Wesleyan Open. He was dominant throughout, winning by fall in each of his first three matches. All three matches would go less than a period before defeating 2021 NJCAA National Champion Jacari Deal of Nebraska-Kearney 5-3 in the semifinals and Kolby Kost of Augustana 13-6 in the finals.

This marks the first time in his career that he has earned honor and is the first Mustang since 2016 when Cole Wilson won NSIC, Super Region III, and National Wrestler of the Week honors.

Southwest Minnesota State continues action Saturday in Minneapolis for the Augsburg Open starting at 9 a.m.
