MARSHALL, Minn. – Southwest Minnesota State University wrestlers Caden Steffen and Jacob Dykes are both ranked among the Top 14 nationally in their respective weight classes in the 2021-22 Division II InterMat rankings
Steffen, a junior from Zumbrota, Minn., is ranked fifth at 184 pounds. He earned NSIC Wrestler of the Week after going 5-0 and placing first at 184 pounds at the Dakota Wesleyan Open. He won by fall in each of his first three matches, with all three matches going less than a period, before defeating Jacari Deal of Nebraska-Kearney 5-3 in the semifinals and Kolby Kost of Augustana 13-6 in the finals.
Dykes, a junior from Iowa City, Iowa, is ranked 14th at 285 pounds. He climbs into the rankings after going 4-1, finishing second at 285 pounds. After winning his first three matches by fall, Dykes matched up with previous No. 6-ranked AJ Cooper of Fort Hays State in the semifinals, winning by decision 10-5. Dykes would end his day losing by fall at 4:33 to No. 4-ranked Steven Hajas of Augustana.
Southwest Minnesota State continues action Saturday, Nov. 20 in Minneapolis for the Augsburg Open starting at 9 a.m. SMSU’s first home dual match of the season is Jan. 14th against Upper Iowa.
