SIOUX FALLS, S.D.– Augustana wrestling head coach Jason Reitmeier announced Monday the signing of three student-athletes as part of the 2022 signing class. The three signees are Max Balow, Payton Hadevidt, and Maxwell Ramberg, and will enroll at Augustana as freshmen in the fall of 2022.
Max Balow | 285 pounds | Lake City, Minn. | Lake City HS
Reitmeier on Balow: “We are excited to welcome Max to our wrestling family. He is a true student-athlete. Max excels in football, baseball, track, and wrestling, and he also makes time for band and choir. We feel the sky’s the limit for Max once he can focus just on wrestling. We really like Max’s size, but will look to continue to increase his size and strength for heavyweight.”
High School: Balow will graduate from Lake City High School in 2022. He was the Class AA 285-pound sixth-place state finisher in 2020 as a junior and a second-place finisher in the MN/USA Wrestling State tournament in 2021.

Payton Handevidt | 165 lbs. | Jackson, Minn. | Jackson County Central HS
Reitmeier on Handevidt: “We’re really excited to have Payton join our program. Payton is an accomplished wrestler, one of the best in the state of Minnesota. He is also a very good football and baseball player. Payton has many connections to Augustana and our wrestling program with friends and former teammates on the team. We are excited that he is going to be part of the family.”
High School: Handevidt will graduate from Jackson County Central High School in May of 2022. He is a two-time state champion, earned all-conference honors, and was a member of the Minnesota National Junior Team as a junior while wrestling in the Minnesota #1 event in 2019 and 2020.

Maxwell Ramberg | 197 lbs. | Baldwin, Wis. | Baldwin-Woodville HS
Reitmeier on Ramberg: “Max was our first commit for 2022. He’s had a great connection with the school, our team, and our staff right from the start. He has a love for the sport and has continued to get better and better every time we watch him compete. Max continues to test himself against the best in the nation and has established himself as one of the best. We are excited to see him grow in our program.”
High School: Ramberg will graduate from Baldwin-Woodville High School in May of 2022. He has earned Academic All-State Honors in three consecutive years and is a two-time state qualifier. Ramberg holds the single-season pin school record for his high school with 25.
