Augustana Makes Home Debut this Weekend

SIOUX FALLS, S.D.– No. 22 Augustana wrestling returns to the Elmen Center on Friday to make its home debut for the 2021-22 season hosting the No. 9 Upper Iowa Peacocks. The Vikings then head to the Sanford Pentagon to host Division I North Dakota State Bison on Saturday.

The Events
Upper Iowa will make its way to the Elmen Center on Friday to compete in Augustana’s first NSIC dual of the season. The event is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m and is Professor Appreciation night for the Vikings.

The Vikings host North Dakota State on Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Sanford Pentagon. The event is presented by Dental Comfort Center and River Ridge Oral Surgery.

The Peacocks
Upper Iowa, nationally ranked at nine, is 1-0 in dual action. The Peacock’s first win was over Ouachita Baptist University with a score of 23-15. UIU most recently competed at the Auggie Open with the Peacocks claiming five titles.

The Bison
North Dakota State holds a 1-1 record on the season. The first dual for the Bison saw a 43-3 victory over California Baptist. NDSU fell short against No. 3 Missouri on November 11, with the final score being 3-37.

North Dakota State competes in the Big 12 conference at the Divison I level and is the Vikings’ second DI dual opponent on the year.

The Vikings
Augustana opened its dual season at the South Dakota State Duals on November 19, hosted by South Dakota State. The Vikings saw three victories in Jack Huffman in the 133-pound match, Cade Mueller at 174 pounds and Kolby Kost at 184 pounds.

Huffman defeated his opponent by way of 10-4 decision, logging three takedowns and earning two points for a near fall in the bout. The victory was Huffman’s second of the season after a win at the DWU Open.

Mueller saw a victory in the 174-pound match at SDSU by a 5-0 decision. Mueller earned the points from an escape and a takedown to mark his second victory of the season. A win at the Jimmie Open earlier this season was Mueller’s first of the 2021-22 season.

Kost was victorious while competing at 184 pounds for Augustana. He defeated his SDSU opponent by major decision.
