On Wednesday night Northland Community & Technical College and Itasca Community College will compete for the Battle of the North: Volume 2.
In the first annual Battle of the North in 2019, Northland came out on top 37-18. Northland head coach, Scott DCamp, is looking to use his veteran coaching to best the surging Itasca program led by Joseph Umlauf in his third year at the head coaching helm. DCamp has been the head coach for almost a decade now and has built a solid tradition of having a strong team that shows up ready to compete.
Being a college heavyweight himself, DCamp seems to always have a solid heavyweight in what should be the anticipated match of the night between Dylan Valencia and Jake Rau of Itasca. Valencia was a stand-out wrestler out of the great wrestling state of California, while Rau had a decorated high school career himself out of Medford, Wisconsin. Rau was recruited by Coach Umlauf for his stellar work ethic and will continue to improve every day.
In Umlauf’s three years, his teams come ready to wrestle at a non-stop pace and ready to compete. In Umlauf’s first year, his team improved greatly from the start of the year to the end, tying Northland at the National Qualifier in the 2018/19 season. Let’s see who brings home the bragging rights to the Battle of the North.
This action-packed rivalry dual is going down Wednesday night in Thief River Falls, Minn., at 7:30 pm. Come out and support these teams.
