Bison Wrestling Heads East for Three Duals in New York

FARGO, N.D. – The Bison wrestling program will head east to New York for three duals in two days in the Empire State. North Dakota State will take on Edinboro and Binghamton at Binghamton on Friday, December 10. The first dual against Edinboro is slated for 1 p.m. CT with the second dual against Binghamton set for 2:30 p.m. inside West Gym.

On Saturday, December 11, the Bison will be at the University of Buffalo, set to take on the Bulls at 7 p.m. inside Alumni Arena. NDSU will also have several wrestlers competing at the UNI Open Saturday in Cedar Falls, Iowa.

Five Bison Wrestlers in Rankings
North Dakota State has five wrestlers ranked in the InterMat and FloWrestling weight class rankings, headlined by Luke Weber’s No. 6 ranking in FloWrestling after a Big 12 Championship last season at 165. Jared Franek leads the InterMat rankings for the Bison and is at No. 9 in both polls at 157. 197 Owen Pentz and 285 Brandon Metz are also ranked in both polls. 141 Dylan Droegemueller, who is on the cusp of the rankings as an honorable mention by FloWrestling, moved into the InterMat rankings this week at No. 32.

Open Success
The Bison competed in four Open events through the first month of the season and claimed at least one champion at each event with 11 total. Last week, Michael Caliendo, Michael Weber, and Gabriel Schumm took home top honors at the Dragon Open. Prior to Thanksgiving, several Bison competed at the Daktronics Open at South Dakota State. Caliendo defeated a pair of ranked wrestlers to claim the 165-pound tournament title.

  • Luke Weber scored his 10th career pin for the Bison and 20th career bonus-point victory in the Augustana dual. Weber is now tied with Brandon Metz for the active Bison lead in bonus-point wins.
  • Austin Brenner collected his 25th career win last week, along with securing his 10th career riding time point.
  • Dylan Droegemueller picked up his 10th career dual meet victory with a tech fall at Augustana.
  • Owen Pentz surpassed 100 career points scored with nine at Augustana to move to 103.
  • Brandon Metz enters the week just nine take downs from 100 for his career. He is second on the active list, behind only Jared Franek (122).
  • Franek is the active leader in dual match victories with 23. Metz is second on the list with 22. Both could reach 25 for their career this week with three dual matches on tap.
  • Head Coach Roger Kish secured his 90th career dual victory as a head coach at Augustana.

Coming Up
The Bison are scheduled to be off for the remainder of 2021 and will return to action at the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga hosted Southern Scuffle to ring in the New Year on January 1-2.
