Mason Named NSIC Wrestler of the Week

Mankato, Minn. — Minnesota State junior Darrell Mason has been named Northern Sun Intercollegiate Wrestler of the Week for his performance at the Jim Koch Wisconsin Open last Saturday.

Not including a first-round bye, Mason went 4-0 in claiming first place in the heavyweight division at the open tournament hosted by UW-Parkside in Kenosha, Wis.

Mason, who redshirted last year after transferring from Ellsworth Community College, defeated Julian Ramirez (McKendree) 12-4 to open the day and took a 6-4 decision over Cadin Koeppel (Wisconsin-Whitewater) in his second match. He then earned a pair of wins over NCAA Division I opponents to claim the title – defeating Jacob Christensen (Northern Illinois) 5-3 in the semifinals and Peter Christensen (Wisconsin) in the championship match via a 9-4 decision.
