Mason Places First at Jim Koch Wisconsin Open

Oshkosh, Wis. — Minnesota State was paced by the performance of junior heavyweight Darrell Mason as several individuals competed at the Jim Koch Wisconsin Open hosted by UW-Parkside in Kenosha, Wis., Saturday.

Mason, who redshirted last year after transferring from Ellsworth Community College, went 5-0 at the tournament and picked up a pair of wins over NCAA Division I opponents en route to claiming first place. Mason earned a 5-3 decision over Jacob Christensen (Northern Illinois) in the semis, before defeating Peter Christensen (Wisconsin) in the championship match.

Other Mavericks who placed at the open tournament were junior Brock Luthens, who was fifth at 141, and junior Cooper Siebrecht, who was fifth at 157.
