North Dakota State 28, Augustana 10

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – North Dakota State wrestling picked up a 28-10 victory over Augustana Saturday afternoon at the Sanford Pentagon in a return to dual match play for the Bison.

North Dakota State (2-1, 0-1 Big 12) improved its dual meet record in the all-time series to 38-3 over the Vikings (1-2, 1-0 NSIC) with the victory.

Senior Brandon Metz started off the afternoon with a 9-5 decision over Steven Hajas in the heavyweight division to improve to 6-1 on the season. Metz secured a pair of early takedowns in the first period and then recorded an escape and takedown in the second period to pull comfortably ahead before adding his fifth riding time point of the season.

After Augustana took a 7-3 lead with a major decision victory at 125 pounds and a victory by decision in overtime at 133 pounds, Dylan Droegemueller put the Bison back in front as he defeated Kenneth Lenger by tech fall, 17-1. Droegemueller improved to 5-2 on the season with his third victory of the year by tech fall.

Gaven Sax would extend the Bison lead at 149 pounds, recording a takedown in overtime for a 4-2 sudden victory. Both Sax and Keaten Schorr scored two points in the second period and then Sax secured a takedown late in the first overtime period for the victory going into halftime.

Out of the halftime break, Jared Franek continued his dominant start to the season with a tech fall victory over Tyler Wagener, winning 17-2. Franek had five takedowns to bring his season total to 18, as he recorded his seventh career tech fall win and improved to 6-1 this season.

Luke Weber improved to 5-1 on the season and recorded his third pin of the year in the 165-pound match. Weber led after period one over Dylan Schuck and then recorded a pin 28 seconds into the second period for his fastest pin of the season at 3:28.

Austin Brenner extended the Bison lead as he improved to 8-5 on the season and 2-1 in dual matches with a 6-1 win at 174 pounds. Brenner had a takedown in the first and second periods, to help carry a 5-0 lead into the final frame. He would add a riding time point to secure the win in the dual and the victory for the Bison in the match.

After an Augustana win at 184 pounds, Owen Pentz capped off the dual meet with a 9-7 win at 197 pounds to improve to 6-1 on the year. Pentz had two early takedowns, but needed a reversal and a 2-point nearfall in the third period to regain the lead. He also received a riding time point at the end to extend the lead.

The Vikings travel to Chadron, Nebraska, on Dec. 11 to compete in the Chadron State Duals. The Vikings will compete against San Francisco State at 10 a.m. and Chadron State at 11:30 a.m.

The Bison will now head east to New York for three duals in two days in the Empire State. The Bison will take on Binghamton and Edinboro at Binghamton on Friday, December 10. The first dual against Binghamton is slated for 1 p.m. CT with the second dual against Edinboro set for 2:30 p.m. inside West Gym. On Saturday, December 11, the Bison will be at the University of Buffalo, set to take on the Bulls at 7 p.m. inside Alumni Arena.
