Johnnies Win Four of Five Matches in Dual Loss
COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Saint John’s forfeited the first four weights in a 30-23 loss to Ridgewater on Friday, Dec. 3, in Sexton Arena.
The Johnnies (0-2 dual record) won four of the five live matches, cutting its deficit to 24-23, as Ridgewater (3-0 dual record) forfeited the bout at 174 pounds.
Down 24-0, freshman Logan Thorsten (Foley, Minn.) started SJU’s string of wins with a 4-2 victory in triple overtime at 157 pounds.
Junior Julian Mares (La Puente, Calif./Bishop Amat) followed with a 15-0 technical fall in the second period and sophomore Wareke Gillette (St. Peter, Minn.) picked up the forfeit win at 174.
Sophomore Ben Gilbertson (Sauk Rapids, Minn./Sauk Rapids-Rice) tallied a 6-3 decision at 184 pounds and freshman Levi Henry (Foley, Minn.) notched his first collegiate pin at 197.
The Warriors’ Rick Jones sealed the win with a first-period pin at heavyweight.
The Johnnies travel northwest for MSU-Moorhead’s Dragon Open at 10 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 5.
