Viking Wrestling Set to Host No. 3 UNK

Augustana Travels Sunday for Dual at No. 10 Minnesota State

SIOUX FALLS, S.D.– No. 15 Augustana wrestling returns to the Elmen Center on Friday for a bout with the No. 3 Nebraska-Kearney Lopers. A split weekend sees the Vikings traveling to Mankato, Minnesota, on Sunday to take on Minnesota State in an NSIC dual.

The Events
The Vikings will be on the mat with the Nebraska-Kearney Lopers at Noon on Friday. Augustana travels to Mankato, Minnesota, for a bout with the Minnesota State Mavericks on Sunday at 2 p.m. The duals will be the second and third of the year against nationally-ranked foes.

The Lopers
Nebraska-Kearney, ranked No. 3 in the nation, defeated San Francisco State and Chadron State at the Chadron State Duals last weekend. The Lopers moved to 2-1 on the season.

UNK has seven wrestlers that are nationally ranked. Matt Malcom, ranked No. 2 in the nation at 165 pounds, defeated his opponent by racking up 17 points in just four minutes.

The Mavericks
Minnesota State is ranked at No. 10 in the nation. The Mavericks saw seven first-place finishes at the BVU Open last weekend. Individually, MSU sees three wrestlers ranked with No. 8 Trenton McManus at 125 pounds, No. 4 Kyle Rathman at 149 pounds, and No. 2 Trevor Turriff at 174 pounds.

The Vikings
Augustana enters the dual with three nationally-ranked wrestlers. Jack Huffman is ranked at No. 5 in the 133-pound weight class. Huffman is 2-1 in dual action this season. After a loss against Upper Iowa, Huffman had a sudden victory over a Division I opponent on Saturday.

Kolby Kost is nationally ranked at No. 8 in the 184-pound weight class. Kost, 3-0 in dual action, won a pair of duals last weekend against his opponents. He has recorded 26 takedowns, the second-most for the Vikings this season.

Steven Hajas, competing at 285 pounds, is ranked at No. 4 nationally. The Vikings have 10 regionally ranked wrestlers: 125 – No. 6 Jaxson Rohman, 133 – No.1 Jack Huffman,, 141 – No. 5 Kage Lenger, 149 – No. 5 Keaten Schorr, 157 – No.6 Tyler Wagener, 165 – No. 4 Miles Fitzgerald, 174 – No.5 Cade Mueller, 184 – No. 2 Kolby Kost, 197 – No. 4 Daniel Bishop and 285 – No. 2 Steven Hajas.
