SIOUX FALLS, S.D.–Augustana wrestling will begin the New Year at the Hastings Open in Hastings, Nebraska, on Saturday. The event is slated to begin at 9 a.m. There are 29 teams with wrestlers participating in the tournament, including NSIC opponent Minnesota State.

Augustana comes off of a busy December schedule where the Vikings competed in four duals and saw two victories over ranked opponents and were thrust to No. 10 in the national rankings as a team. The Vikings last saw action on Dec. 19, traveling to Mankato, Minnesota, for a dual against Minnesota State where eight wrestlers for the Vikings claimed victories, including a dual victory over the then 10th-ranked Mavericks.
Six wrestlers are nationally ranked in their respective weight classes for Augustana. Freshman Jaxson Rohman, of Trimont, Minnesota, earns a spot at No. 5 in the 125-pound weight class. Rohman went 3-0 in December and holds an overall record of 8-1.
Junior Jack Huffman is ranked in the seventh spot at 133 pounds. Huffman had two victories in December over a Division I North Dakota State opponent on Dec. 15 and Minnesota State’s Tanner Cook on Dec. 19.
Senior Brandon Carroll rounds out the rankings for the 141-pound bracket at No. 12. Carroll claimed his first victory of the season at 141 pounds against Kolbe O’Brien of Minnesota State.
Sophomore Cade Mueller, competing at 174 pounds, is ranked in the seventh spot. Mueller was named the NSIC Wrestler of the Week after defeating No. 2 Trevor Turriff of Minnesota State in the last dual.
Junior Kolby Kost moves in at No. 11 at 184 pounds. Kost defeated North Dakota State’s Michael Nelson by way of 5-2 decision on December 4.
Steven Hajas is ranked at No. 7 in the 285-pound bracket. Hajas’s overall record this season is 9-3.
The Vikings return to dual action on Jan. 7 and will travel to Aberdeen, South Dakota, for a bout with NSIC opponent Northern State. The dual is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
