Dragons Host Mustangs and Wolves in NSIC Duals

MOORHEAD, Minn. — The Minnesota State University Moorhead wrestling team is back in action with home matches against Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference foes Southwest Minnesota State and Northern State this week. MSUM hosts SMSU at 7 p.m. on Thursday and then will host Northern State at 2 p.m. on Sunday.

This will be the first competition for the Dragons since the Midwest Classic in December. Junior wrestler Cole Jones finished seventh in the 133 pounds category at the Midwest Classic.

Jones is 5-6 at 133 for MSUM. Sophomore Samuel Grove is 5-5 at 285 while freshman Gage Roaldson is 3-1 at 184.

The Dragons are 0-2 in the dual season and 0-1 in the NSIC. The last dual was against UMary last December. Kris Nelson is in his 13th season as head coach at Minnesota State University Moorhead.

About Southwest Minnesota State University
The Mustangs are 0-2 in the dual season and 0-2 in the NSIC after losing to Augustana last weekend. Senior Robert Shields won by decision at 149 lbs. #4 ranked Junior Caden Steffen won by decision at 184 lbs. Caden Steffen has 10 wins on the season. Chayse Jackson is in his first season as head coach at Southwest Minnesota State University.

About Northern State
The Wolves are 6-1 in duals and are coming off of a 23-12 loss to No. 10 Augustana on Jan. 13. Wyatt Turnquist is 10-2 at 149 pounds and is ranked eighth in the nation. Kolton Roth is 6-3 at 141 while Marcus Placide is 10-6 at 197 for the Wolves. Rocky Burkett is in his seventh season as the Northern State head coach.
