Wisconsin-Parkside 31 MSU Moorhead 3

MOORHEAD, Minn. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead wrestling team got a win by senior Cole Jones but No. 8 Wisconsin-Parkside won the other nine matches in a 31-3 dual win over the Dragons Sunday at Nemzek Fieldhouse.

The Dragons’ last three duals have been against nationally-ranked opponents, and two of their final three will be against ranked teams.

MSUM lost by major decision at 125 to fall behind 4-0 in the dual.

Jones got MSUM on the board with a hard-fought 5-3 win over Parkside’s Joe Roti at 133. The match was tied at 3-3 after two periods before Jones scored the winning takedown in the third period.

Sophomore Hunter Hayes wrestled well at 141 for MSUM. He was down in the third period but cut the lead to 6-5 with a takedown, but Parkside’s Cayden Henschel followed with a takedown to clinch a 9-5 win.

Parkside added more bonus points with a win by technical fall at 149 to push the lead to 12-3 and added another decision victory at 157. The major decision win at 165 pushed the advantage to 16-3.

The Rangers won the final four matches – three of which came by two points or less – to make the final score 31-3.
