Huskies earn sixth straight Super Region V Championship

Seven wrestlers advance to NCAA Tournament

LinksMoorhead, Minn. – No. 2 St. Cloud State Wrestling won their sixth straight Super Region V Championship and advanced seven wrestlers to the NCAA Championships on Saturday afternoon in Moorhead, earning five individual Regional Titles along the way. No. 6 Paxton Creese (125), No. 1 Joseph Bianchini (141), Nicholas Novak (149), No. 3 Anthony Herrera (157), and No. 2 Noah Ryan (197) each won Super Region V Championships at their respective weights. No. 2 Kameron Teacher took second at heavyweight while No. 3 Garrett Vos earned third at 133 to round out the Huskies’ National Advancers.

St. Cloud State Head Coach Steve Costanzo had this to say:

“It feels good. We’re really proud of our program, we’re proud of the guys who wrestled here today. We had five champs, almost had six champs there – we have seven qualifiers, seven bullets going to the National Tournament. I’m certainly excited about those seven guys.”

“We had three head-to-head matchups with Augustana. Those were pivotal matchups for us in that final round – it decided the team championship. We had a champion at 141, 149 and 157, three in a row right there which was critical to have those matchups and win those matchups. Those three guys certainly did a great job. I commend all the guys that come in here and wrestle. This is a brutal tournament. We come into this tournament and everyone’s 0-0. No matter what you’ve done throughout the year, it really doesn’t mean anything. It really comes down to who shows up today, who wants it and who wants to go onto the next tournament. I’m certainly proud of our guys – really proud of them.”
