Mankato, Minn. — The No. 14 Minnesota State wrestling team (2-6,2-6 NSIC) will enter postseason competition on Saturday, Feb. 26 with a trip to the NCAA Division II Super Region V Championships at the Nemzek Fieldhouse, in Moorhead, Minn.
Super Region V is made up of all ten Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference teams, and the tournament serves as a qualifier for the upcoming 2022 NCAA Division II wrestling championships. The top three individuals in each weight class at the regional event earning a berth to the NCAA Division II Championships held in St. Louis, MO. On Mar. 11-12 at the Chaifetz Arena.
In 2021, the Mavericks qualified three individuals to the NCAA Division II National Championships. Trenton McManus(125 lbs.), Kyle Rathman (149 lbs.), and Trevor Turriff (174 lbs.) earned trips to the national meet with first-place finishes claiming regional championships.
In the latest NWCA DII Coaches Association individual rankings, MSU had three wrestlers ranked nationally. Rathman is ranked 7th at 149lbs., and holds a 4-1 record. Turriff owns the No. 3 ranking at 174 lbs., with a 15-2 record. Junior Darrell Mason is ranked 8th at 285 lbs., and stands 14-0 on the season.
